Most marketers know the traditional advice concerning how they should operate in a recession. For those who can, recessions are an opportunity to leverage ad spending, and comparatively low media costs, to increase share of voice. This puts them in a stronger position than their competitors when the recession ends.
But the COVID-19 recession is somewhat different. While in a traditional recession, sectors such as travel go through a contraction, in this recession some sectors have seen their demand drop practically to zero.
